Tatterdemalion
Tatterdemalion came from
The other side of Tambour Lane.
The golden sand trailed through her hand,
Barehead, barefoot, bare all she came.
Good old Pygmalion laid on
A big brass band with pipes and drum
But she preferred the song she heard
Before she came to Babylon.
Guitar and mandolin, the tune
Played long ago on a languid dune
Beyond the bar, on a different star,
The other side of a different moon.
Tatterdemalion played on
An old tin can in steel pan lane
Before she found the long way round
To Babylon and back again.
